6footunder had its inaugral surf and meeting on 12 October 2006. Paul, Pierre, Stepan, Ian and late arrival Diekie enjoyed good waves at Long Beach with a lightish off shore picking up the fairly solid four foot swell. Some of the members were spotted fraternising with some tow- in junkies, but as this was a first meeting, no disciplinary action was taken. Paul probably got the most waves with Pierre qualifying for the surfing in the dark award. 6footunder then moved to 7 Gladioli Way for the official launch. Discussion ranged from the merits of the Camps Bay beach girls to sharks and, well, of course waves. It was agreed that we would make Thursday evening 6pm our `meeting' night-by trying to surf together and then a sunset beer. One member is on probation for not drinking beer, and he will be monitored closely. We agreed that no one person had ownership of 6footunder and it would grow as big or stay as small as we wanted- but the ideal would be a smallish `core' (should that be hard core) group and then others. Surf trips were put on the agenda- E.Bay, J.Bay and a catamaran off Madagascar.

Surf Babe arrived and her position may need to be evaluated and her photo removed from the web site. Over a pizza later she said that she had found our conversation boring. Admitedly the conversation at that stage had dropped or risen, depending on your perspective, to talking about the `veins' pulsing in big waves- but although no plans are underfoot to ask her to move out her house, 6footunder may need to replace her as surfbabe-especially after it was found that she does not surf or even get into the sea.

So we will meet on Thursday 19- venue will be dependent on swell and wind-but tentative agreement is Long Beach
